Tanga,16 August 2016 –Tanga Cement Public Limited Company (TCPLC) has today launched its second kiln that will enable the expansion of clinker production from five hundred thousand tons to 1.25 million tons a year.
Speaking during the kiln’s launch ceremony held in Tanga, the company’s Board chairman, Mr. Lawrence Masha, said the total cost for the project was US$ 152 million from the agreed initial budget of US$ 165 million.
“We are very glad to complete the project within the agreed timeframe and budget. We started to use the second kiln in production of clinker late last year. This is a huge expansion of production capacity up to 150%,” said Mr. Masha, adding that the second kiln will enable the company meet the demand of the valuable raw material for the production of quality cement in the country.
On his part, the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Reinhardt Swart said the launch of the second kiln marks a key milestone in the expansion of the Tanga Cement factory.
“This is a key milestone reached by our company today and this investment is part of our continuous modernisation program of the plant,” said Mr. Swart.
He said his plant is not only one of the best and most modern cement plants in the world but also at the helm in Tanzania in terms of environmental protection.
He noted that the safety and health of the plant’s employees is unmatched in the industry. “During construction of Kiln Two, Tanga Cement attained more than one million hours of safety,” he noted.
He concluded by expressing his gratitude to the Government of Tanzania through the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the regional authorities in Tanga region, the Tanzania Police Force and all other arms of Government which have extended to Tanga Cement the necessary support and cooperation in the many years of its operation.
